JIT was developed in Japan in response to the scarcity of resources. A part not made is energy not used and carbon not burned. Look at the current NEWSWEEK, which rates the 100 top green companies. Also read Petersen’s article, “The Greenest Big Companies in America” here in IE. These companies are also JIT pioneers. They’re also doing well in the current bull market.

I agree that we need to buy more from artists and artisans. One-way to stop the proliferation of household mass produced junk is to develop taste for quality. High quality doesn’t have to be expensive. Great deals can be found in galleries and craft fairs.

"The “New competition” seeks to meet market demand with innovations that will extend the life cycle, durability and dependability of products."
Totally agree, however JIT may become more expensive as Carbon becomes taxed and oil loses its supsidies. Why dont we consider a market based on innovation, durability, dependability and craftmanship; a return to skilled labor.
We used to be artisans, then mass production stepped in: http://bit.ly/heB6R
