The Triple Bottom Line(TBL) is a new measurement for corporations capturing the essense of sustainability by measuring the impact of an organization’s activities on the world.  The phrase was coined by John Elkington, co-founder of the business consultancy SustainAbility, in his 1998 book Cannibals with Forks: The Triple Bottom Line of 21st Century Business.  It presents the addtion of social and environmental values to the traditional economic measures of a corporation or organization’s success and is rapidly gaining recognition as a framework for measuring overall business performance.  Triple bottom line accounting means expanding the traditional company reporting framework to take into account not just financial outcomes but also environmental and social performance.
