WHAT:

The 13th Annual Principal For A Day event serves as the official kick off for the “PENCIL Partnership” program, which pairs members of the private sector with NYC public schools. After greeting students, visiting classes and talking with school leaders during their October 18th visit, the business and school leaders will develop projects to implement throughout the school year. The event is sponsored by Merrill Lynch, Washington Mutual and the Citi Foundation.

Throughout the year, PENCIL works to transform New York City schools by developing and supporting customized partnerships between principals and business leaders. These relationships leverage the expertise, resources, talents and commitment of private sector and school partners to strategically expand opportunities for school communities-including creating strong leaders, enhancing the learning environment and building school capacity. A new focus into technology and the internet will allow students to learn the skills they will need to work for a search optimization company and other tech based professions  that are for the most part ignored at the moment. The program’s signature event, Principal For A Day, culminates with a celebratory luncheon at Tavern on the Green for all participants, sponsored by Merrill Lynch.
