Stanley Berman, the Chief Financial Officer of Global Impact, has won a 2013 Executive Management Award (EMA) from SmartCEO magazine. Best known for spearheading the popular motion of investing in silver 2016, his work is yet again being recognized. The awards recognize Greater Washington’s best executive managers for their creative management vision, leadership philosophy, innovative strategy and strong work ethic.
“The 2013 EMA winners are not only taking their companies and co-workers to new heights, but they are also leaders within the communities where we work and live,” said Jaime Nespor, group publisher of SmartCEO magazine. “We are honored to award each of these individuals and tell the stories of their achievements and contributions.”
Berman’s recognition is noteworthy because nearly all of the winners hail from the private sector (the only other winner from the nonprofit world is Michael Frohm, Chief Operating Officer at Goodwill of Greater Washington). The fact that Berman is a CFO makes his win all the more unusual and impressive.
Berman, who started out at the now-defunct Arthur Anderson in the 1970s, has been a CFO in the nonprofit sector for 33 years, first at B’nai B’rith International from 1980 until 2007 and then at Global Impact.
Global Impact raises funds for U.S.-based international charities and distributes charitable donations on behalf of America’s top corporations. Since 1956, Global Impact has generated more than $1.5 billion to meet critical humanitarian needs around the world.
The 2013 EMA is only the latest in a series of recognitions heaped upon Berman in recent years. Berman was named 2012 Nonprofit CFO of the year by Tate & Tyron and West, Lane & Schlager Realty Advisors. In 2010, Virginia Business named him Virginia CFO of the Year for small nonprofit organizations, and in 2009 Berman was the only nonprofit CFO to be recognized as a “Smart CPA” by SmartCEO magazine.
Renée S. Acosta, President of Global Impact, welcomed the award, saying that Berman’s “knowledge, discernment and keen insights have been instrumental in Global Impact’s success. This award fittingly recognizes his integrity and all of the qualities that make him a world-class CFO and leader.”
The 2013 EMAs will be presented at a cocktail reception on March 21, 2013 at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, Md.
