{"id":1619,"date":"2009-08-27T22:32:21","date_gmt":"2009-08-27T22:32:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ietransfer.wpengine.com\/?p=1619"},"modified":"2019-04-26T07:55:57","modified_gmt":"2019-04-26T14:55:57","slug":"the-hub-bay-area-a-place-for-change-makers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inspiredeconomist.com\/articles\/the-hub-bay-area-a-place-for-change-makers\/","title":{"rendered":"The HUB Bay Area &#8211; a place for change makers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><a href=\"http:\/\/inspiredeconom.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/hub_logo_home.gif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1581\" src=\"http:\/\/inspiredeconom.wpengine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/hub_logo_home.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"85\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>The large gathering at <\/strong><strong>HUB<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>Bay<\/strong><strong> Area\u2019s pre-launch gathering last night at the <\/strong><strong>Brower<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>Center<\/strong><strong> in <\/strong><strong>Berkeley<\/strong><strong> was impressive<\/strong>. <span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Within the short one hour window that I was there, I met someone from <a href=\"http:\/\/earcosgin.ning.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Issues Network<\/a> \u2013 an organization dedicated to introducing youth to the power of networking and conversation to solve the world\u2019s most pressing issues; from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gmcp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Micro-Clinic Proje<\/a>ct \u2013 an organization helping economically depressed and conflict ridden areas form partnerships to prevent and manage disease; from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.svb.com\/svbank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Silicon Valley Bank<\/a> \u2013 banking for innovative ideas; and from Solutions \u2013 an enterprising LEED certified collaboration of architects offering \u201cnew thinking\u201d to help re-architect problems and find solutions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The concept behind the\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/bayarea.the-hub.net\/public\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HUB Bay Area<\/a> is not easily grasped.<span> <\/span>Tangibly it is a workspace for small businesses interested in creating social change.<span> <\/span>In-tangibly the potential is much greater, but that potential will require the strength and participation of the community it wishes to empower for it to take hold.<span> There are meeting rooms, a membership list serve, opportunities to dialogue with other members, bulletins, access to professional services mentoring and workshops, support from the venture capital community, local universities and lots of support from various &#8220;change&#8221; sector leaders. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">If last night\u2019s enthusiastic gathering is any indicator, there is hope.<span> <\/span><span> <\/span><span> <\/span>More than a collection of non-profits seeking funding or individuals looking for employment, the careful vetting by the HUB staffers seems to be building a community of real doers with ideas in early-stage implementation simply needing advice, resources and \u00a0the moral support it takes to swim upstream in a status quo world. \u00a0If this community of change-makers engages early and takes advantage of the carefully planned infrastructure, there is an exciting opportunity for momentum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With locations in 12 other countries, the HUB Bay Area is worth watching as an entrepreneurial energy center for social change.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The concept behind the the HUB Bay Area is not easily grasped.
