The Triple Bottom Line<\/a>(TBL) is a new measurement for corporations capturing the essense of sustainability by measuring the impact of an organization’s activities on the world.  The phrase was coined by John Elkington, co-founder of the business consultancy SustainAbility<\/a>, in his 1998 book Cannibals with Forks: The Triple Bottom Line of 21st Century Business<\/a>.  It presents the addtion of social and environmental values to the traditional economic measures of a corporation or organization’s success and is rapidly gaining recognition as a framework for measuring overall business performance.  Triple bottom line accounting<\/a> means expanding the traditional company reporting framework to take into account not just financial outcomes but also environmental and social performance.<\/p>\n
