This was a good week for Marriott International which recently made two green ranking lists.  Coming in 12th on Computerworld magazine’s “Top 12 Green IT Companies” and 115th on  Newsweek’s 2010 Green Rankings, as reported by CSRwire and respectively, patrons with a green conscience can sleep well knowing  Marriott International, Inc. is doing their part to keep the environment green.

Marriott International, Inc. was the only lodging company to make Computerworld magazine’s “Top 12 Green IT Companies“.  It did so by virtue of its recent IT environmental achievements which included a new cooling system for its data center and improved temperature management and reduced water consumption of approximately 58% since 2007 amongst other innovations.

At 115th, Marriott also made Newsweek’s 2010 Green Rankings of the 500 largest publicly traded companies in America, as measured by revenue, market capitalization, and number of employees.  Amongst the Media, Travel and Leisure Industry, Marriott came in 10th.

With its Spirit to Preserve Initiative, it is no wonder that Marriott International ranks best in class in environmental stewardship.  From protecting the rainforest to greening its supply chain, Marriott addresses each of its impacts on a page dedicated to its environmental initiatives.

I am excited to stay at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa this November for the 2010 SRI in the Rockies Conference to see how this Green Initiative is incorporated into a stay at one of their hotels.  I will report back with more details at the end of November, until then congratulations to Marriott on their green successes.
