Piggybackr 1 Million Leaders ChallengeHow can we enable the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs? One effective method might be through giving them the tools and the resources to be able to raise money and support for their ideas, and a new campaign aims to do just that.

Piggybackr’s 1 Million Leaders Challenge, which runs from November 1, 2013 to January 3, 2014, is an initiative that proposes to enable and support the efforts of youth (and their teams) to raise money for their projects, ideas, and communities with crowdfunding.

“It’s an opportunity for young people to take the lead this holiday season, to share more about the things they care about – their teams, projects, and ideas, and get the funding and mentorship they need to take it to the next level. We want to inspire one million young leaders to act.” – Andrea Lo, CEO and Co-Founder of Piggybackr

The nine week challenge features weekly prizes for participants and the chance for making connections with mentors and investors, and is designed to encourage young people of all ages and all levels of leadership experience to get involved and get working on their big ideas.

“Each week during the Challenge, participants crowdfunding on are eligible for prizes and mentorship including a 1-on-1 with a “Shark Tank” investor, meet and greet with Selena Gomez at a concert, signed Adrian Peterson NFL football, or tour of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

At the conclusion of the Challenge, a panel of judges will select a grand prizewinner based on subjective criteria, including effort and impact. The grand prizewinner will be named “Piggybackr Leader of the Year,” serve as a role model to other young people and receive mentorship and cash to further amplify their project and ideas.” – Piggybackr

To help make this happen, Piggybackr has partnered with a group of nonprofits focusing on entrepreneurship, STEM, community service, and environmental activism. The partners include Ashoka Youth Venture,, Camp BizSmart, Coalition Wild,, Equal Footing Foundation, GenerationOn, Girls Innovate!, Greening Forward, Kauffman FastTrac, and Young Dreamer Network, and other nonprofits are encouraged to partner up for this challenge.
