According to Feeding America’s 2010 Hunger Study one in four children in the U.S. does not have enough to eat. See how one financial services company is partnering with a nonprofit to advocate on behalf of children’s health.
According to the press release, “Fill the Plate” is a two-year commitment by Morgan Stanley that will support Feeding America in providing neediest children nourishing food to take home from school. Particularly it will expand and strengthen Feeding America’s BackPack Program which supplies children with backpacks full of nutritious food that they can take home over the weekend. These backpacks are filled with a minimum of three meals that the children can prepare themselves, are wholesome and shelf-stable.
Morgan Stanley has committed $5 million to help Feeding America double the amount of backpacks it distributes by 2014. It will also partner with Feeding America to…
- help 21 foodbanks expand the backpack program.
- support a pilot summer backpack program
- support an evaluation of the program’s long-term impact
- invest in the National Produce Program to increase access to fresh produce and combat childhood obesity
